- Groove Radius: .0120″ radiused groove in the head to a depth of .032″–.033″
Recommended Installation Guidelines
1. Machining for Flatness
- For best results, have both the head and block machined to ensure a perfectly flat sealing surface.
- Engines under 800 HP: Cutting grooves in just the head
- Be sure to run 625 studs on vehicles over 800hp
2. Use a Radiused Cutter
- We strongly recommend a radiused cutter for all groove installations to achieve optimal sealing with the fire ring.
3. Proper Stud Installation & Lubrication
- Studs are a must for reliable clamping force—our competition gasket requires studs to handle elevated boost levels.
- Apply liberal lubrication on the nut, washer, and threads to ensure even clamp load.
- Never exceed manufacturer torque limits—fasteners at full torque contain immense potential energy.
4. Torque Procedure
- Initial Torque: 130 ft-lb for startup.
- Retorque Hot: After reaching operating temperature, retorque the studs while the engine is still warm.
- Check Valve Lash: Each retorque will further compress the gasket, affecting valve lash—always re-adjust as needed.
