What does a Downpipe do?

The downpipe exhaust on your turbocharged vehicle directs exhaust gases from the turbine housing into the exhaust system. An aftermarket GT35 downpipe or GT35R downpipe is typically larger in diameter, allowing for better exhaust flow. It either uses a high-flowing catalytic converter or removes the catalytic converter altogether for improved performance.
